396 - Aran Poncho

It has to be said, this poncho is a favourite of ours, and we're not the only ones, since it was featured in Vogue Knitting! Elegant wide cables, original cuffs and the softness and drape of our Magic+ yarn make this poncho a perfect example of French knitting chic by Bergère de France. The pattern is knitted in 2 parts, in stockinette, reverse stockinette, ribbing and cables on 5 and 5.5 mm needles, plus a cable needle.

I first came across this pattern at a conference. The woman in front was wearing it. She said it came from a magazine but when I googled it I eventually found it here. I purchased the creations book just for this pattern. I made it in grey and it turned out perfectly. The only mods being i knit it in the round. That was two years ago and my adult daughter has requested one for herself. This time it will be in brebis the original colour. So glad it's been made a free PDF. A great pattern and so easy.

I was blown away when I looked at this pattern. The photography is fab and the model wore the poncho so well. I am quite good with cabling so I took on this project and I am very glad I did - it came out exactly as the picture (I only wish I was as pretty as the model) and I made it in a Kingfisher blue to go with jeans. I found it fairly easy to tackle and I think anyone who can cable even basically could tackle this - just be in mind that you will need a bit of patience and spare time! All in all, I would recommend this pattern.
